SCIENCES:
We just finished the unit on "Astronomie" and we are starting the unit on "Preuve et recherche" (Investigation). They are very motivated by investigating with classmates.
In order to review knowledge on Astronomy (Grade 6), a parent ran into a series of activities available from the Canadian Space Agency. They specifically target grades 6. See: http://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/resources-young/junior-astronauts/default.asp (click on "streams and activities" - it looks like you need to register on the site for full access, though)
Through this program, it also looks like there is an opportunity for individual students to win a trip to a space camp in Saint-Hubert, Quebec.
ELA:
Students wrote their first copy of their Harris Burdick story in their pink notebooks and this should now be complete. They began typing their stories on Google Docs. We discussed paragraphing using the TIP TOP strategy: Time, Place, Topic and Person. Students are also encouraged to add more details in their writing by using the following strategies: Tricky Threes, using their senses, repetition, and thought and action after dialogue. Basically, we discussed adding meat to the bones of their stories.

This week, we read two articles about the real Guinness World Record of the biggest poutine in the world, then we started reading page 7 to 28 from the book ''La plus grosse poutine du monde''. We also took notes about the adjectives.
Next week, we will take a period to work on the adjectives and where to place them in a sentence. Then, students will read page 28 to 45 and will have to do a writing assignment involving a little bit of creativity.
Here are extra notes about adjectives that can help : Adjectifs et place des adjectifs.
