Week 24 : February 28th

ELA:

Tuck Everlasting Novel: Students should have now read to the end of Chapter 20 and we will finish our novel study next week. Please ensure students are practicing their spelling words on a regular basis. Spelling tests will take place every Friday. We will begin our Newspaper Unit... along with Ancient Greek Gods Research Project soon. Eventually, we will write a newspaper article about their Greek God.

Social Studies:
This week we had our test on The Provincial Government (marks are on PowerSchool), we review previous assignments (marks are also in PowerSchool), talked about Black History Month and started to talk about our new chapter, The Founder of Democracy in ancient Athens. Next week, we will go deeper into this chapter and learn about the different reality at that time and similar aspects of democracy.

FLA:
This week, students are working on writing a letter.  It is a good practice for the PAT writing evaluation.  Here are the guidelines and rubric (this one might be a little bit harder to read - the scan did not come out so well): Lettre et grille d'évaluation.

Week 23: February 21st

Social :

This week we completed chapter 6 : Provincial Government, started the study guide and watch a meeting at the Legislative Assembly. The quiz will be Tuesday, February 25. To get ready for this quiz, you can use Quizlet and study. Don't forget to make sure you have the right answers. Next week we'll start chapter 3 : The Founder of Democracy in ancient Athens.

ELA:

Students will have a spelling test on Friday  ( Week 3) Also students should now have read to the end of Ch 15 in Tuck Everlasting. The following questions are now due:

1. The author compares the sunset to what symbols? How does she use these symbols to describe the sunset?
2. Write a paragraph describing the conversation that Winnie and Tuck have and its importance.
3. Who might the man in the yellow suit be?
4. Why is Winnie having doubts that the Tucks are criminals?
5. How do you think you would react to the stranger's demands if you were the Fosters?

FLA:

This week, students presented their "discours oratoire".  Marks will be entered next week.  They also worked on homophones.  Here is the booklet: Homophones.  This booklet is not for homework.  If a student choose to do it at home, it is okay, but not mandatory.  Next week, we will start working on the letter.  This will be a good practice for the PAT.  More info will be added to the blog next week.

A spelling bee contest has been announced. If students want to participate, here is the list of words for the "Concours d'épellation". The finals will be during the week of March 9th.

Week 22 : February 12th

Social Studies:

This week, we finished our project "La création d'une icône". Next week, we will finish our 6th chapter while watching a section of the Legislative Assembly meeting and talking about the way laws are created.

Please check PowerSchool, I am still missing assignments about Services offered to Francophone in Calgary. They were due on January 30th.

FLA:
This week, students had the last two days to work on their ''disours oratoire''.  The rest of the work should be done at home.  Next week, they will have their oral presentations staring on February 18th.  Here are the guidelines and rubric : discours oratoire.

A spelling bee contest has been announced. If students want to participate, here is the list of words for the "Concours d'épellation". The finals will be during the week of March 9th.

We are starting our unit on “Air et Aerodynamisme”.  We will see how air can have more or less pressure, how objects can change related to pressure and how something can fly or resist to the air.  We will see some physics forces and the effect on aerodynamic. 

Math 6- Poirier
We are continuing “Angles” in geometry. We measure and compare angles.

Week 21 : February 7th

Social Studies:

This week we continued the first part of our group project on the four different political jobs in a Provincial government. Students ca use their textbook or a reliable website, like the Canadian Assembly. Students went into "Expert group" so, every teams would have similar information and they went back in their groups, so every member has the same information on all the different fonction. Next week we will review those answers and start the second part of this project and create a logo.

FLA:

This week, students had two days to work on their ''discours oratoire''.  Most of the work should be done at home.  Next week, they will have the last two days planned to work on it and ask questions at school.  The presentations start on February 18th.  Here are the guidelines and rubric : discours oratoire.

Most of the students finished reading the book ''La plus grosse poutine du monde''.  The books will be available till the end to next week, for those who weren't able to read the last part.  The last activity with the book, will be to write a letter to the author.  This assignment will be a good practice for the PAT.  Even though, the guidelines and rubric will be available on the blog when we will start the assignment, this is not to be done at home.

Tuesday Feb 11th students will have a unit test on “Preuve et Recherche”.  Review sheet was give to student last Wednesday.
